Parship began their UK singles service on 13th June, 2005 but the company has been supplying dating services in Germany and other European countries since 2001 (it's possible to register with Parship either as a UK only or international member).

Parship provide the usual photograph profiles and safe e-mail service but a main feature of this service is the detailed personality assessment you complete when registering.

The test itself was devised by Dr. Hugo Schmale, a professor of psychology at the University of Hamburg (you will need to search for German pages to find him listed at the university) and an expert in the area of personal relationships.

This is quite a long questionnaire containing straightforward questionnaire items about habits and beliefs, in addition to a series of projective tests in which you have to select between alternative graphical figures and choose titles for images of scenes.  The results are used to create a psychometric profile which the service uses when you search for potential partners.  You can additionally get a summary of your personality assessment results when you have completed your registration and a detailed personality assessment is on offer as an added extra if you take out a 6 month subscription.

Parship has partnered with a number of the main UK newspapers and magazines to supply the dating service on their sites. Partners cover the Daily Express, Independent, What's On Stage and Hello Magazine, so this is a service that is taken seriously by some big players.

Overall this service feels more like a traditional dating service where someone else (the personality matching) is working on your behalf to find suitable individuals. As with most services, registration and the personality test is free and you can then do a search for prospective partners. Membership fees become payable when you want to send messages to others on the service.

This might be a little more pricey than the majority of services but if you're serious about finding a partner then I think the effort this service puts in to find you someone compatable is probably worth the extra money.
